Illustrator Lauren Martin finds humor and inspiration in nature and the mundane. In her world, flowers have faces, pieces of fruit have legs, and every inanimate object has a personality.
Born and raised in New York City, Lauren began honing her skills at a young age through classes at the Art Students League of New York. What blossomed there as a childhood appreciation of realism led her to study classical portraiture at the National Academy of Design in Manhattan. After several years of figurative oil painting, she pivoted to textile design after teaching herself how to sew and knit, and earned her BFA in Textile/Surface Design from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. While at FIT, Lauren joined the acclaimed indie-pop band Frankie Cosmos, and did quadruple-duty as the synth player, second guitarist, backup singer, and, of course, in-house merch designer. She now shares her illustration talents more widely. Some recent clients include OnlyNY, Mulberry, Paper Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times.
